Justworks Expands Capabilities with Via Acquisition

Global Map

Justworks will acquire the international employment platform Via in the name of increasing SMB access to the global talent pool. The acquisition will fit Via’s capabilities into Justworks’ existing suite of global PEO solutions.

Via helps companies hire and pay international teams with on-the-ground workforce support in 12 global markets. Its employer of record solutions include a local-expert model and support for HR, tax, legal and accounting tasks. The company’s approach emphasizes employees’ local preferences and accesses culturally relevant benefits. The platform also provides country-specific compliance insights.

Justworks President and CEO Mike Seckler said the two companies share a similar vision for applying a local-first approach to international hiring. “Acquiring Via will enable us to accelerate our product ambitions and bring the solutions small businesses deserve to market sooner,” he said.

‘A Whole New Level’

Founded in 2017 by sisters and Co-CEOs Maite and Itziar Diez-Canedo, Via describes itself as an EOR platform that manages the onboarding of workers around the world and the building of hubs in new countries. The company’s aim, said Itziar Diez-Canedo, is to make the business world more diverse and create more job opportunities for more people in more places. “Joining Justworks will enable us to achieve this on a whole new level,” she said.

Justworks plans to integrate Via’s team into its own, and develop a shared expansion strategy that will address customers’ international employment needs.

In July, Justworks launched an SMB-focusedpayroll solution that expanded its industry coverage to include hospitality and “Main Street” businesses, among others. The company followed that with new expense-management capabilities that allow users to process reimbursement requests alongside payroll.

In August, Justworks expanded its payment solution to include international contractor payments, allowing users to manage compensation for domestic and international contractors as well as employees.

Financial terms of Via’s acquisition were not disclosed.
